This guide explains how UDSM staff can sign in to Microsoft 365, complete multi-factor authentication and open Microsoft Teams.

Before you begin

  • A valid UDSM staff email address, for example firstname.lastname@udsm.ac.tz.
  • Your current UDSM account password.
  • A working internet connection and a supported web browser.
  • The Microsoft Authenticator application installed on your mobile phone.

Sign in to Microsoft 365

Open the Microsoft sign-in page

Open your web browser and go to https://login.microsoftonline.com/.

Enter your UDSM email address

Enter your full UDSM staff email address and select Next. Confirm that the address is correct before continuing.

Enter your password

Enter your current account password and select Sign in. Do not share your password with another person.

Approve the sign-in request

Microsoft may display a two-digit number on the browser. Open Microsoft Authenticator on your phone, enter the number shown and select Yes.

Approve the request only when you initiated the sign-in.

Complete any additional security prompts

Follow the instructions displayed on screen. If Microsoft asks you to add another verification method, complete the setup or select Skip for now when that option is available.

Open Microsoft Teams

From the Microsoft 365 home page, open Teams. To schedule a meeting, select Meet and then New meeting. Enter the meeting details and send the invitation.

If you see “Assign Products”

Some users may see an Assign Products message when a Microsoft 365 licence has not yet been activated. Select the option if it is available, wait for the licence assignment to complete and then refresh the page. Contact the ICT Helpdesk if the applications remain unavailable.

Security reminder

Never approve an Authenticator notification that you did not initiate. DICT staff will not ask you to disclose your password or an authentication code.

Common sign-in problems

ProblemWhat to do
Incorrect email address Use your full UDSM staff email address and check the spelling.
Password is rejected Confirm that Caps Lock is off. Use the password-reset guide if you have forgotten the password.
Authenticator request does not appear Open the Authenticator application manually and refresh it. Confirm that the phone has internet access.
Microsoft 365 applications are unavailable Check whether an Assign Products option is displayed. If the problem continues, contact the ICT Helpdesk.
